I am proud to announce that our Noise Nugget project received a grant from the NLnet foundation as part of the NGI0 Commons Fund.
This grant will cover some of the efforts to make Noise Nugget the go-to open-hardware and open-software solution to create musical gadgets.
The expected milestones in the next 12 months will be:
- New version of the Noise Nugget, probably based on the RP2350 instead of RP2040
- New eurorack dev-kit
- Improved software support, including DSP library optimized for the platform
- Documentation and tutorials to design a hardware device based on the Noise Nugget
This new version of the Noise Nugget will be fully open-hardware, and my intention is to have an open development process with regular reports and design reviews along the way. So stay tuned for that.
To celebrate this grant, we are publishing the schematics of the Noise Nugget 2040 and PGB-1 pocket groove box under the CERN Open Hardware Licence (CERN-OHL-S):
My original vision for the PGB-1 was to make it as open as possible. Of course this can be scary when developing a product because there’s always the fear of having someone run away with the design an make a competing product. In reality this fear is often irrational, and with the NLnet grant announcement I think it is the perfect time to make it happen.
